Coronavirus in Wales - Can I call a plumber during lockdown?
As England, Scotland and Wales each begin to make their own decisions on the current rules on what can and can’t be done during lockdown - as well as deciding how much longer restrictions will stay in place for - it is easy to be confused as to whether or not you can call a plumber or heating engineer. With many of our customers asking us about this, we decided to put together a handy guide for you.
The law makes it clear that if emergency gas or water repairs are required, we are able to assist. This includes water and gas leaks, or if you have no heating or hot water in your house. It also covers boiler installations in the event that your old boiler needs to be replaced due to boiler failure or safety reasons. Under the current guidance, we can still carry this out even if you are in isolation with COVID-19 symptoms. In the interests of everybody’s health and wellbeing, we would ask you to be honest and inform us if this is the case so that appropriate safety arrangements can be made.
Annual boiler service / landlord gas safety checks
We are also able to do your annual boiler service. This is important in order to maintain your guarantee and make sure that everything is in order with your boiler. If you feel that you are unable to have this done, most manufacturers have special provisions in place so that your cover remains valid - but it is advisable to avoid delaying it unless absolutely necessary. Please allow plenty of time before your annual service is due, as we have a limited workforce at the moment.
The same is true for landlord gas safety checks, which are a legal requirement. Your landlord should inform you in advance when this is due to take place, and provided we have your details we will do our best to contact you in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.
Although in most cases we can’t currently do site visits, we are offering a video service so that you can get your boiler quote and be ready to have your new boiler fitted at the earliest opportunity. We can also discuss your requirements by telephone, however we would need to see the existing boiler arrangements to provide an accurate quote.
If your boiler needs to be replaced due to failure or safety issues that cannot be fixed, we may be able to arrange a site visit.
