Gas boiler installed in kitchen in Mold

Do I need a care plan for my new boiler?

Buying a new boiler for your home is one of the most important investments you will make. As well as the cost of buying and installing the boiler itself, there are other factors to think about such as the running costs of heating your home, which boiler finance package is right for you and whether or not you should take out an extended guarantee. You may have also found yourself wondering if you should take out some form of boiler cover. If you have found yourself confused by the options, read on to learn the facts.

What’s the difference between a boiler care plan, a boiler service plan and a guarantee

What does a Boiler Guarantee cover?

All new boilers will come with a manufacturer’s guarantee, usually for three years. If your boiler is installed by a recognised installer, such as a Worcester Bosch Acredited Installer, you will have the option of purchasing an extended warranty. This is usually up to seven years for an oil boiler and can be as long as ten years for a gas boiler.

A boiler guarantee covers the cost of parts and labour should any components fail within the warranty period, meaning that you will not have to pay for any repairs that are a result of component failure.

What is a boiler care plan?

A boiler care plan is not necessary if your boiler is within its guarantee period. It is essentially an insurance policy that can give you extra peace of mind if you have an older boiler. You do not need a boiler care plan if your boiler is under warranty so you should never feel under pressure to buy one for a new boiler.

What is a boiler service plan?

A boiler service plan covers the cost of your annual boiler service and safety checks. It is not the same as a boiler care plan. It is important to understand that in order for your guarantee to remain valid, you must have your boiler serviced by a manufacturer-approved engineer every twelve months. A boiler service plan allows you to either pay for this upfront at a fixed cost, or spread the cost into a manageable monthly direct debit, and can often work out cheaper than simply paying for your service on a one-off basis when it is done. It is recommended to purchase a boiler service plan when you invest in a new boiler.

A trusted installer such as D. R. Plumbing and Heating will never encourage you to take out unnecessary cover for your boiler. If you’re not sure what is best for you, don’t hesitate to ask and we’ll be happy to offer honest and impartial advice.

How much does a boiler service plan cost?

Our boiler service plans start from as little as £5.50 monthly or £66.00 per annum for gas boilers and £7.50 monthly or £90.00 per annum for oil. This low-cost plan ensures that you never forget your annual boiler service and is designed to satisfy the manufacturer’s warranty requirements if applicable. They work alongside your warranty to give you the best possible value.

If you are installing a new boiler but will be using an existing central heating system, you may want to consider a heating care plan. This covers your annual boiler service, as well as any breakdowns in your heating system and controls. Our Heating Care Plan costs £10.00 monthly or £120.00 per annum for gas and £12.50 monthly or £150.00 per annum for oil systems.

There are, naturally, some limitations on what is covered. For full details and a comparison of the different packages available, please check our Boiler Care Plans page.
